The 1920s Hammond Castle Museum resides in the former home of John Hays Hammond, Jr., a successful inventor who conceived of the palatial abode as a storage site for his collection of Roman, Medieval, and Renaissance memorabilia. Visitors may guide themselves through eight rooms, including a Renaissance dining room and Hammond's invention room, which offers insight into his development of remote control and other creations. The castle lies a few miles down the Gloucester Harbor waterfront from town, just below Freshwater Cove Village.
